What I Played LAst Night: VI – Feed the Beast
011108_STDDR: Friday Happy Hour on the Roof of the Standard Hotel Downtown. 5-9:30. Jan 11 2008.
This is two bloody maria’s and a cap of magic into it. The Lakers were playing at the Staple Center a mile and a half away. It would be their fifth win in a row, this season, and the energy of the hometown winning seemed to play into the atmosphere of all of downtown LA.
This is one of my favorite places to play in this town, because you have a gorgeous view of its center and the mountains behind Los Angeles, and I get to play a lullaby for the sun.
When I first started playing here almost a year ago (gracias a Diallo), I was really into this concept of playing something “Balearic” for the the sun’s setting.
Lately, instead playing music for the sun and sea, I feel I’m playing more from my roots, growing up listening to my Dad’s music, and playing these rock sets which I hope achieve a good mix of both familiar for the after-work drinkers in suits looking to get laid and something psychedelic in honor of the crazy view surrounding everyone in this unbelievable 360.
Hope you enjoy,
